About This Service

Eligibility criteria

Adults who are registered with a GP in the NHS Mid Essex area.

Patients must be over 18 years of age.

Service details

We offer the following services:

  • Carpal tunnel decompression.
  • Minor skin surgery – including removal of Basel Cell Carcinoma (BCC), skin lesions on the torso, legs and arms, skin tags, warts and cysts.

We also offer post-operative advice, including after-care instructions.

Any follow-up procedures, such as removal of sutures, is referred back to a GP.

Our team includes fully accredited GPs With Special Interests and skills in minor surgery, supported by experienced nursing staff.


Service delivery

We offer our service on Monday mornings, and all day Tuesdays and Fridays, at:

  • Braintree Community Hospital

Referral process

You must be referred by a healthcare professional, such as a GP or clinical specialist, such as a dermatologist.

You will need EMG (electromyogram) test results for a referral for carpel tunnel decompression.

Waiting times

  • Usual waiting time is between four and 11 weeks. You’ll be seen within 18 weeks.
  • Minor plastic or skin surgery involving known malignancies will be dealt with within two weeks.
