Wednesday 8 March 2017 was National No Smoking Day and many people have traditionally vowed to give up on that day.
But any day is a good day to quit – the sooner, the better.
Smoking still remains the nation’s highest cause of preventable and premature death and it costs a fortune. People can find out how much they are spending by using this Cost calculator.
The Essex Lifestyles Service offers stop smoking support and is free and confidential
Recently, the service helped a gentleman to quit who had been smoking for around 50 years and was up to 60 cigarettes a day. He had tried to quit before, many times - but without success. His stop smoking advisor was able to supply him with 24-hour nicotine replacement patches and lozenges. These helped him to overcome his cravings but he also said that the support and advice of his specialist stop smoking advisor was an enormous help as he went through the quitting process.
He is now putting the cash he would have spent on cigarettes into an old biscuit tin and is amazed at how quickly he’s filling it!. He’s already bought a new watch and now he is going to use his ‘savings’ for a holiday.
If you’re ready to quit, then contact us - you are four times more likely to succeed with our support and will feel the benefits from day one. Quick wins such as saving money and fresher breath will be followed by long term rewards for both your mental and physical wellbeing.

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we reviewed how we deliver all our services in line with the government and NHS England guidance, and as such we stopped delivering all but the most clinically essential face to face appointments for our service users.
In light of the recent changes we are working to restart delivery of our services again. In order to protect our service users, staff and the wider community from the risk of COVID-19 our service may be delivered in different ways to how they were previously.
Please visit our COVID-19 page https://www.provide.org.uk/service-update-following-covid-19-outbreak/ for more information on the changes to our services.
Did you know? Our organisation is part of the My Care Record approach which has been supporting the work of health and care organisations across the East of England during the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, making sure doctors, nurses and co-ordination staff at places you may receive advice or treatment can see important information from your patient record. This could include NHS treatment centres such as the London NHS Nightingale Hospital, making it easier and faster for them to deliver effective care.
