About This Service

Eligibility criteria

Adults (18+) with a respiratory condition, registered with a GP in the Cambridgeshire area.

Exclusions

  • Patients who have an unstable cardiac condition or unstable angina are excluded due to safety. 
  • Patients unwilling or unable to exercise may be offered education only.

Service details

We offer an exercise and education programme for people with:

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Pulmonary fibrosis
  • Chronic asthma
  • Some patients awaiting a lung transplant

We offer these treatments:

  • A self-management programme, for patients with pulmonary disease.
  • An exercise programme, which is tailored to your needs.
  • Education and nutrition advice to help improve the independence of people with lung disease.
  • Telephone follow-up after the programme.

We are not able to treat patients with acute asthma or lung cancer.

Our team includes physiotherapists, healthcare support workers and admin staff. We work with various other healthcare professionals, such as GPs, respiratory consultants, hospital and community teams.

Service Delivery

 We run clinics at various times Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, at these locations:

  • The Oasis Centre, Wisbech
  • The Paradise Centre, Ely
  • Brown Field’s Community Centre, North Cambridge
  • March Community Centre, March
  • Brampton Memorial Hall, St Neots & St Ives

Our service is based at Broomfield Hospital.  

 

Referral process

  • You may refer yourself if you have not completed the programme.
  • You can be referred by a healthcare professional, such as a GP, respiratory consultant or physiotherapist.
  • The average waiting time is six weeks from referral.
