The service will assess, diagnose and treat diseases and conditions affecting the feet and lower limbs of both adults and children. Please not : All patients must meet strict criteria

About This Service

Eligibility Criteria

Adults and children who are registered with a GP in the NHS Mid-Essex area and who meet the criteria as set down by the CCG.

Your healthcare professional will be able to advise you about whether you meet the requirements for referral.

If you don't meet the criteria for treatment, Age Concern run a toenail cutting service and you can access them by calling 01245 423333.

If you require a podiatrist, please look in the Yellow Pages or online for a Podiatrist Registered with the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, and they will be able to help you.

Service details

The team includes podiatrists, podiatry assistants, consultant podiatric surgeons and administration support. They offer a comprehensive range of footcare services, including the following:

  • Preventative treatment for underlying medical conditions, such as diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Interventions to improve mobility, pain relief.
  • Ulcer debridement and off-loading and maintenance of tissue viability.
  • Education and advice to help you self-manage any problems.
  • Treatment of problems which require short-term care, such as ingrowing toenails, including clinics for nail surgery under local anaesthetic.
  • Podopaediatrics. Assessing foot function and treating abnormalities to improve pain in children

We aim to see and treat patients within 18 weeks, but priority is given to those with foot ulcers.

We hold podiatry clinics Monday to Friday, 9am-4.45pm, at these locations:

  • Braintree Community Hospital, Chadwick Drive, Braintree, CM27 2QU.
  • Halstead Clinic, Halstead Hospital, 78 Hedingham Road, Halstead, CO9 2DL.
  • Maldon Clinic, St Peter’s Hospital, Spital Road, Maldon, CM9 6EG.
  • Melbourne Clinic, Parkside, Melbourne Avenue, Chelmsford, CM1 2DX.
  • Moulsham Lodge Clinic, Lilac Close, Chelmsford, CM2 9NY.
  • South Woodham Ferrers Health Centre, Merchant Street, South Woodham Ferrers, CM3 5XE.
  • Springfield Green Clinic, Springfield Green, Chelmsford, CM1 7HZ.
  • Witham Health Centre, 4 Mayland Road, Witham, CM8 2UX.

Referral process

You can refer yourself by calling the service directly or by completing and sending in a referral form.  Referral forms can be requested by calling the centralised booking service number listed on this page.

You can also be referred by your healthcare professional, such as a GP, nurse or podiatrist.

Please note that the service will only see you if you have a medical condition which puts your feet at risk, such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, MS or Parkinson’s.

We will offer you an appointment within 18 weeks, referrals for conditions such as ulceration, will be given priority.
