Completing an annual SHEU survey can provide you with excellent data on your pupils wellbeing and can be the starting point for undertaking Healthy Schools Enhancement.
The SHEU survey is an annual survey that looks to capture information around attitudes and activities relating to healthy lifestyles, emotional health and well-being, safety, children's rights, recreational activities and volunteering.
The survey takes place from mid-January to end of February. Once completed school’s receive individual reports is only available to their selves. A district report is created combining all results within the district (at Primary and Secondary School level) while still keeping school’s anonymity. A county wide report is then created using all results from the SHEU. These will be available between Autumn 2014.
Each school should have administrators to facilitate the survey (Teacher, Healthy Schools Lead etc.) who will be a point of contact in regards to the SHEU.
In relation to sampling, schools should survey every pupil in one class for Years 4, 5 and 6 in primary schools and all year groups in secondary schools. This should be timetabled within mid-January to end of February.
The survey is delivered by the Schools Health Education Unit (SHEU) which has significant experience in this area of research and has undertaken this survey for eight years in succession.
